If you’re reading this, then at least you’ve read something I’ve written.
I’m India. Born in Norfolk, in possibly the sleepiest village ever known, near a Town that was once given the title, ‘the most boring place on earth.’ I now live in London, where Samuel L Johnson, once accurately said – ‘When you’re tired of London, you’re tired of life.’ Quite a contrast.
I love Norfolk, but I do like being able to see civilisation in my day too. It was that quiet time alone in my bedroom when I was younger that fevered my love of writing. My imagination taking me to far-flung places around the world. I used to write stories and then ask my dad to type them up for me on the computer so I could print and illustrate them like a real author.
I spent my university years in Durham, where I studied Cell Biology, dissected a rat, fainted and met my husband, Jon. We now have two cheeky boys together – Raffy and Archie. If you know me, then you may find bits of our university times in my stories – don’t worry, I NEVER name names. Not even my own. Since then, I’ve worked in marketing for an accountancy firm, pharmaceutical PR and marketing for a beauty start-up. I now do marketing and copywriting on a freelance basis.
My English teacher once told me I read too much Jaqueline Wilson. I don’t think you can have too much of a good thing, can you? Like Jacqueline, I also like to write about real-life situations that we all find ourselves in. It’s important to me to use my voice, platform and humour to give light to subjects that society label as ‘taboo’. I don’t believe ‘difficult’ subjects should remain unspoken about because they’re hard to fit into conversation. Humour has the ability to bring smiles to people’s faces no matter how dark the times are – so this is exactly what I’ve tried to achieve.
I’m an avid documentary watcher and note taker. If you’ve ever told me a funny story about anything, it will have been noted. I also seem to find myself in odd situations – Milly’s laser experience isn’t too far from my own.
I’ve just finished my second novel, Where Do I Go From Here? It’s about friendship, the timeline we all set ourselves on life and what happens when life doesn’t go according to our own plan. It’s funny, touching and a more raunchy, millennial version of Eat, Pray, Love – or so I’ve been told. My first novel, Love, Loss and Little White Lies is about a girl called Milly, who tragically loses the love of her life at 27. She manages to find herself through tracing her steps back to when we lived by a community bible – Mizz Magazine – and when we didn’t worry about putting on a brave face.
I love writing and I’d like to do more of it. So, if you like reading my words then please leave me a review on Amazon, Net Galley, Good Reads, post-it notes, letter in a bottle. Anywhere.
